City of Mill Creek, Survey of City Residents: Users and Non-Users of Parks and Recreation Services and Facilities

Facilitated a planning workshop with staff, conducted a focus group with citizens to develop survey content, designed and coordinated a random sample telephone survey of Mill Creek residents, with 200 Park Users and 100 Non-Park Users.

City of Kirkland, Survey of Public Attitudes

Facilitated a planning workshops with staff and Council members; conducted a focus group discussion with residents; developed and coordinated a random sample telephone survey of 400 residents; did a Power Point presentation for the staff/Council retreat reviewing the information.  Conducted over a half a dozen surveys for the City Manager since the early 1990’s.

King County Solid Waste/Cities of Kirkland and Redmond – Waste Collection

Facilitated several focus groups over a two-year period Kirkland and Redmond residents to assess attitudes and practices relating to new recycling procedures.  Worked with city staffs, a representative from King County Solid Waste and the consultant, Sound Resource Management.

City of Redmond, Comprehensive Park Plan Update

Facilitated a planning workshop with staff and Park Board members; developed and coordinated a random sample telephone interview survey; designed and analyzed a written survey for Focus on Redmond magazine; did presentations for the Park Board, Trails Commission, Arts Commission and City Council.

City of Kirkland, Kirkland Parks Survey

Conducted a survey process to obtain information for evaluating potential bond issue for new indoor recreation facilities.  Process included planning workshop, focus group discussion, coordination of data collection and analysis, follow-up workshop with staff and presentation to the City Council.  Conducted several surveys for Parks, beginning with the Comprehensive Park Plan Update in 1988.

City of Kirkland, Sidewalk Needs Survey

Conducted a survey process consisting of planning meetings and workshops, survey of 400 Kirkland residents concerning a potential bond issue, and follow-up workshop to assess survey results.

City of Kenmore, Survey of Residents

Conducted survey process to assess public attitudes toward city services and legal gambling as a source of city revenue.  The survey process included a planning workshop with City Council and staff, focus group discussion with citizens, a telephone interview survey of 400 residents, and a presentation and workshop for the City Council.

City of Kirkland, Parks and Community Services Survey and Survey of Public Attitudes

Conducted survey processes in 1999 and 2001 to assess public awareness levels and attitudes toward city services and toward Park Department facilities and services, including planning workshops, focus groups with citizens, random sample surveys each with 400 residents of the City of Kirkland and with 400 park users, and presentations to staff and City Council.

Seattle City Light/Seattle Public Utilities Combined Customer Service Systems

Conducted planning workshop with staff and facilitated four focus group discussions with utility customers to assess attitudes toward revised bills and billing structure; facilitated three follow-up discussions with utility customers to obtain responses to specific bill designs.

City of Auburn, Water Resources Program – 1995 - 1999

Management of the Water Resources Education Program from 1995 to 1999.  The program included facilitation of several staff planning workshops; presentations to City Council; organization of children’s poster contest; development of an icon symbolizing water protection; development of brochures and other educational materials; coordination of displays and public events; coordination of water-wise garden sales with the local Fred Meyer Store; presentations and participation in festivals and other public events; and development and management of classroom presentations for elementary school students.  Helped organize and coordinate Garden Dedication and Water-Wise Garden Sale in spring 1999.

Seattle Public Utilities, Evaluation of Water Conservation Measures

Management of a project to evaluate proposed water conservation measures which included staff workshops, focus group discussions and survey of 600 households of customers of Seattle Water and its wholesale purveyors.

Aquifer Awareness Program for the City of Renton

Project manager and community involvement specialist for a program to build public awareness of Renton's designation as having a sole source aquifer.  The program was originally funded in 1990 through a matching grant from the Department of Ecology and was extended by the City of Renton in 1991 and 1992.  The program included interviews, group discussions, a random sample survey of residential communities; design and management of all elements of a major promotion program; design and coordination of a complete curriculum for use in the schools to educate children about their source for drinking water; coordination of presentations to schools; development and coordination of a promotion program with Renton businesses.

Skagit Transit Comprehensive Transit Plan

Development of marketing research and marketing strategies for a Comprehensive Transit Plan.  Tasks included a strategic planning workshop, depth interviews with business and community leaders, facilitation of focus group discussions with bus riders and non-riders, a random sample survey of citizens, and development and coordination of on-going marketing for the agency.

Scott County (MN) Unified Transit Management Plan

Facilitated a Strategic Planning Meeting; facilitated focus groups and other discussions, reviewed current marketing, and assessed future marketing strategies.

Metrolink (Rock Island, Il.) Comprehensive Transit Plan Update

Designed and conducted the public involvement plan for the transit plan undate including a strategic planning workshop, depth interviews with business and community leaders, review of previous marketing research studies, facilitation of focus group discussions and design of public workshops.

City of Tukwila, Attitudes toward Public Transportation Services

Coordinated and facilitated focus group discussions with riders traveling through Tukwila, and with business owners and managers in the City concerning the current usage and future needs of transit services in the City of Tukwila.

Transportation Development Plan for Pentran (Peninsula Transportation District), Hampton, VA.

Worked with the Board and Management to review and revise goals and objectives for the agency, conducted depth interviews with business and community leaders, and facilitated planning workshops.

Washington Transportation Plan Update

Conducted four focus group discussions--two with citizens and two with Department of Transportation staff-- to evaluate concepts and terminology in the WTP Update for 1999.

Knoxville Transit Improvement Strategy, Knoxville, TN

Managed the community involvement tasks for a major transit planning study conducted for Knoxville/Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission.  Tasks included:  Planning workshops with staff to development goals and objectives, focus group discussions, meetings with transit operators, public workshops and the development of marketing strategies plan.

Kansas City Transportation Improvement Project, Kansas City, Mo

Managed the community involvement tasks for the MARC Transit Improvement Project, including in-depth interviews and facilitation of meetings with team members, staff from several agencies and elected officials.

112th Street Improvement Project for Snohomish County

Managed the community involvement program that included a planning workshop, depth interviews with residents and business people, focus group discussions, public workshops and a random sample telephone survey of the community.

4th Avenue West Design Study & Improvement Project, Everett, WA.

Conducted focus group discussion and public workshops to assess public attitudes toward street improvements.  Conducted additional workshops to assess responses to the Improvement Project.

42nd Avenue South Improvement Project, Tukwila, WA.

Community involvement coordinator for a road improvement project.  The public involvement activities include: focus group discussions, facilitation of public workshops and media contact.

WSDOT, Marine Services Division

On-call consultant for community involvement and marketing research projects, through 1989 - 1991.   Projects included: The San Juan Islands Reservation Study; design and management of Origin and Destination Surveys for the Bremerton and Vashon runs; a community in­volvement program for the City of Bremerton concerning changes in the Bremer­ton-Seattle ferry service
